Abstract: It is important to point out that learning and researching human rights constitutes an appropriate means to ensure better respect of the same rights, through a better knowledge of them. The value of democracy depends upon the ability that citizens have to judge its government and the actual margin of freedom that they enjoy in order to make it. Moreover, in a strong democracy the full respect of the entire corpus of individual rights is a necessary condition for existence of a democracy which fully operates. Some kind of progress in human rights has emerged almost immediately after the collapse of communism.
