Abstract: This article presents some aspects of the causes of inconsistencies found in official translations of judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union and of the European Court of Human Rights in the field of private law, explaining the source of these inconsistencies in translations and their consequences. Concrete examples extracted from judgments are provided to give an overview of the manner in which these inconsistencies may arise. In the second part of the paper, we will analyze the main recommendations offered by legal literature to prevent such inconsistencies in translation and to draw the attention of readers.
