Abstract: The problem of discovering the truth has always been topical. As long as man transmits or receives information, he has the potential to mislead or be misled. The process of lie detection is difficult, as there is no ideal way to differentiate a person telling lies from someone telling the truth. The polygraph technique is one of the most effective techniques used in the field of detecting simulated behavior. The polygraph, known empirically as a „lie detector” is a mechanical or electronic recorder, which pneumatically picks up changes in blood pressure, pulse, and breathing, supplemented with a system for recording electrodynamic resistance and muscle micro-movements. The polygraph does not record the lie directly, but the physiological changes caused by the emotions that accompany the simulated behavior. During the polygraph examination, subjects may adopt different behaviors. Therefore, the examiner must take precautions against the attempts of subjects who try to evade detection through some maneuvers such as: controlled breathing, muscle movements, psychological evasion and mechanical damage to the polygraph.
Keywords: truth, lie, polygraph, evasion, „lie detector”.
