The blockhain technology stands out and seems to have the biggest impact; not once has blockchain been compared with the impact that the internet has had on us since its’ beginning. But, unlike the internet, blockchain seems to affect out lives much more visible. Not only does this new technology offer us access to information, but also gives us the possibility to realize operations that, until now, took us much more time, like payments or online shopping. The civil law notary is one of the oldest professions in the world; it’s existence can be traced to roman law. But in this new digital world, one must wonder: does this bureaucratic civil servants have a place? Especially when Artificial Inteligence seems to fulfil the social needs that have been the backbone of the notarial profession since its’ founding. This article will try to answer the question if the civil law notary, as we know him, can be skipped when purchasing a real estate asset? In other words, can the notarial act be replaced with what is today known as a smart contract?
