Abstract: Copyright is in the middle of the debates regarding the increasing evolution of new information technologies, the economic, social and legal challenges being considerable. The development of the Internet raises concerns among copyright owners about how their public works can be used through online platforms. The peculiarity of current copyright legislation is focused, on one hand, on seeking a balance between the protection of the owner’s rights over his work and the integrity of the work and, on the other hand, on ensuring the distribution of the work in the best conditions, while guaranteeing the authenticity of the copies. In the paper we will analyse how this balance is achieved and maintained in the virtual environment, and will identify the legal solutions for the protection of the work on the Internet, under the new rules on the Digital Single Market.
