Abstract: A subject of particular interest in the modern linguistics is represented by the research of the vocabulary structure through debating the differentiation and characterization of each lexical subsystem and, implicitly, by questioning the used terminology. In order to enjoy an efficient translation, it is necessary to identify the appropriate semantic and terminological fields, as well as a clear understanding of the general tone and of the transmitted message. Thus, we can provide a correct interpretation of the lexical elements, of the syntagms and phrases that they form, and of the whole text. The purpose of this paper is to highlight how the fulfillment of these standards are met when translating European Union texts into Romanian.
Key words: European Union, terminology, syntagms, standard formulations, lexico-semantic norms.
