Abstract: The interpretation of international treaties is of particular importance for the execution of their clauses. In the case of international treaties authenticated in two or more languages, differences between the meaning of the terms may arise, which may determine disputes regarding the extent of the international obligations assumed by the States parties. This paper aims, on the one hand, to analyze the rules of the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties on the interpretation of multilingual treaties and, on the other, to exemplify their actual application by the International Court of Justice.
Key words: international obligations, International Court of Justice, Vienna Convention.
