Abstract: In mid-July 2010, PAID officially launched the issuing system of household compulsory insurance policies against natural disasters (called abbreviated PAD). The significance of introducing compulsory insurance is crucial in a context where, in recent years, the Romanian citizen has had a lot of natural events that have affected his household. It is estimated that the household compulsory insurance coverage will be around 10 percent of the current total of 8.5 million households by the end of this year and 20 percent of the homes in Romania will have got a compulsory insurance by the end of 2011. Failure by the obligation to asset a household compulsory insurance represents a contravention and it is punished according to the law by a fine of 100 to 500 lei.
